What size online backup account do I need?

To find out which size and type of backup account is right for you, download our data backup analysis tool.

Once you have decided which directories or drives you wish to backup, our program will analyse your data and work out how much space it will take up once it has been compressed.

What is Online Backup?

Online Backup is a way of duplicating your business data and storing a copy in a secure, offsite and remote location using your existing Internet connection.

Backup software is installed onto your computers and servers, and your data is compressed, encrypted and backed up to an offsite, secure storage infrastructure.

Should you lose any of the data you have backed up, it can be easily and quickly recovered and placed straight back in its existing location via the backup software browser.

How do I know what level of subscription I need?

To determine what type of subscription you require, you can do the following:

  • create a new folder and copy all the files you want to backup to this folder
  • select the folder and choose ‘properties’ to see the data storage space you require

Despite the fact that your data will be almost 50% compressed (depending on the type of data), we advise you to subscribe for the uncompressed amount of space - you'll be saving data from different points in time.

Encryption

Your data and authentication information is encrypted on transfer and storage. While installing the FiveBackup Online Backup application, you can provide your private encryption key (known only to you and not stored anywhere on our servers) or opt for the system-based encryption key. We recommend that you choose your own private encryption key to maintain utmost data confidentiality.

Can I backup my data more than once a day?

Yes, you can. Backing up your data is not a lengthy process and there is no limit to the data transfers or the number of offsite backups you can make per day.

Can I use FiveBackup if I work from home?

FiveBackup is ideal for people working from home, as well as those who are self-employed and only requiring back up for a single PC or laptop.

What standard encryption do you use?

Our encryption software uses 256 bit AES (Advanced Encryption Standard). This is one of the highest level commercial digital encryption standards.

How do I know if I have the right sort of internet connection?

An average broadband connection should be sufficient to use our online backup service.

Our software only transfers altered or new data. With FiveBackup, the data will be compressed prior to being transferred, therefore limiting the amount of data transfer required.

Are there any hidden costs involved?

The only extra charge you may incur is if you want a CD/DVD of your backed up data sent to you when a disaster strikes. You may need to request this if you cannot afford to wait for large amounts of data to be retrieved over your internet connection.

How do I retrieve my data once it has been backed up?

Backing up your data saves so much time and hassle in the event that you:

  • have lost a file and need to find it
  • have a problem with your hard drive and you want to reload your files
  • want to transfer your data to a new system
  • want to access your work from a different location

To retrieve your data simply:

  • click on ‘Login’
  • log in with your login name and password
  • click ‘Restore’

It’s that easy.

Do I need a password?

When you sign up with FiveBackup, you will select a password which will be used to encrypt your files. You will always require this password to retrieve your files at a later date.

FiveBackup has no access to your password to ensure that no one but yourself can make use of your backedup data. However, you have the option not to encrypt your files if you feel it is not necessary.
